When shipping packages to storage consider using USPS Carrier Pickup.  StorageByMail shipping labels do not require postage, so why not save yourself a trip to the post office.

We think Carrier Pickup is one of the best-kept secrets at the USPS!

Shipping A Package To Storage Is As Easy As Composing An Email

One of our goals in rebuilding the inventory management section of StorageByMail was to make it as simple and intuitive as possible to create a package entry and print a shipping label.  In the end we decided to borrow a metaphor from a task we all perform every day —- sending an email.  For each package you add to storage, you have the option of assigning a meaningful title and description that will help you remember the contents of that particular box.  You can also attach descriptive attachments like images or spreadsheets that make it even easier to remember what’s in each box.  I like to snap photos with my phone of each item I pack and then attach those as my description (a picture is worth a thousand words).  Give it a try.  I think you’ll see a lot of similarities between our new user interface and your favorite email application.

The Next Evolution of Cloud Storage --- It's Not What You Might Expect

It wasn’t all that long ago that the phrase “cloud storage” was entirely foreign to the average person.  Today it has gone mainstream (note the Google search trend) thanks in large part to companies like Box.net, Drop.io and Mozy.  All have made it dead simple for regular people to post digital content into the cloud whether for simple backup purposes (Mozy) or for collaboration (Box.net and Drop.io).  At StorageByMail, we’re ushering in the next wave of cloud storage.  Only this time it’s not just about digital content.  Physical things can now be offloaded to the cloud where they securely reside ready to be shipped at a moment’s notice to the location of the owner’s choosing.  Whether you’re a salesperson who wants access to supplies of marketing collateral and tchotchkes while on the road or you’re an urban nomad who needs a storage solution that isn’t tied to any one particular location, the cloud is for you.

Advocates of cloud storage for digital content emphasize advantages such as easy access, security and cost efficiencies.  We believe those arguments apply equally well to your seasonal clothes, books and keepsakes (or any other physical things for that matter).  And we’re working hard to make that vision a reality.  With improvements in delivery logistics that have made it easy to move boxes from one place to another, and with technology from StorageByMail that allows users to tap into that delivery infrastructure and manage inventory with ease, we believe cloud storage for physical things is poised to be the next big advancement in the cloud.

At StorageByMail we’re ramping up for a rapid-fire succession of product releases that will integrate storage with the web services you use every day.  Stay tuned for more on that in the coming months!
